Jamie Carragher has been appointed an advisor at non-league club Marine. Liverpool legend Carragher will lend his wealth of experience to the Merseyside outfit, who currently play in the National League North after a rapid rise in the last few years.

Since 2021, Marine have enjoyed two promotions, made an FA Trophy semi-final final appearance and famously hosted Tottenham in the FA Cup third round. Based in the coastal town on Crosby, where Carragher lives, the Mariners are looking to continue their progression, with plans for a new stadium taking shape.

The former Liverpool defender, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports and CBS Sports, has previously offered his support to Marine through sponsorship, and he’s now become part of the framework at Rossett Park. Carragher commented: “Marine is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go.

“I’ve enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over recent years and I’m pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory capacity going forward.”

Marine CEO James Leary added: “This is a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community, and he’s followed closely what we’ve been building here over the last few years. His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward over the coming years.”

In January 2021, Carragher stepped in to sponsor Marine after their FA Cup tie at home to Premier League side Tottenham went behind closed doors amid the global pandemic. The club said they’d lost around £100,000 in potential revenue.

Carragher decided to sponsor Marine’s dugouts and their pre-match warm-up shirts through his charity, the JC23 Foundation. Marine chairman Paul Leary said: “We are indebted to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation for their support in this magical game for Marine.

“The JC23 Foundation do magnificent work in helping young people not just in Liverpool but right across the world. We are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.””

While announcing Carragher’s appointment on Wednesday, Marine also confirmed that a full planning application for the club’s new stadium is expected to be submitted to Sefton Council by September. Marine have played at their home of Rossett Park – now referred to as The Marine Travel Arena for sponsorship purposes – since 1903.

Under manager Bobby Grant, the team finished 12th in the 2025-26 National League North table. It was Neil Young who guided Marine to promotions in both 2022 and 2024, but last summer he stepped aside after six-and-a-half years as manager and became the club’s first-ever director of football.
