One of the most iconic rappers of the 1990s has passed away at the age of 59 after a battle with cancer. Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard, who shot to fame as part of the duo Rob Base and DJ EZ-Rock, was announced to have died after a private battle with cancer just four days after his birthday. He passed away peacefully after a private battle with cancer on Friday surrounded by family.
In a statement, the family said they were heartbroken at the news. “Rob’s music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world,” the family said. “Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten.

“Thank you for the music, the memories, and the moments that became the soundtrack to our lives,” they added.
Rob Base first shot to fame with the track It Takes Two. Rob and E-Z Rock met in school while growing up in Harlem and later built their rap career from the ground up after recording early demos together.
But in recent years, Rob has been touring across the world as part of the “I Love the ’90s Tour”. Joining the likes of rapping legend Vanilla Ice and Young MC, Rob was continuing to get audiences on their feet towards the end of his life.
But his business was also heavily invested in bringing up new talent within the music industry. He also provided a helping hand, mentoring new artists with his company Funky Base inc.

Devastated fans flooded the comments on the rapper’s Instagram page, one wrote: “Rest well King and know your music will never rest. It will live on forever.” Another wrote: “OMG so sorry to hear. Sending thoughts and prayers. I still cherish the time was in stage dancing with Rob and Kyle!!!!”
A third shocked follower wrote: “No No No, this can’t be real!”
