Iran hits back at Trump’s move to declare Hormuz Strait a US territory

JD Vance says keeping gas prices low is ‘goal number one’ of Iran war
  • Iran says it will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until President Donald Trump “accepts the reality of defeat.”
  • “This strait will be opened and closed only under Iran’s command, Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi posted on X early on Saturday. “So long as you do not accept the reality of defeat and stop indulging in fantasies, Iran will continue to enforce the blockade.”
  • Ship-tracking data revealed that only two vessels passed through the strait on Friday, down from a pre-war average of over 130 daily transits.
  • Iran’s new statement comes after Trump stated that he intends to declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory and promised to hit Iran hard economically.
  • Trump advised Americans to accept higher gasoline prices as efforts to reach a deal to end the nearly six-month conflict continue.
