A brand new iPhone update will arrive on Monday, Apple has announced.
iOS 27, the company’s major new operating system for the iPhone, will be released on Monday, September 14. Apple made the announcement as it held a major keynote event to launch new products including the iPhone Duo, its biggest iPhone redesign ever.
It brings a host of tweaks and performance improvements. But probably the most notable feature is the inclusion of Siri AI, an entirely redesigned version of the voice assistant that leans heavily on artificial intelligence.
It will be able to use all of the data stored on your device – from photos to messages and emails – to answer queries. Users will be able to ask about a nearby restaurant recommended by a friend, for instance, have the assistant search through messages to bring up a link to the location.
When Apple introduced the new tool, at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, it stressed that all of that is done privately and largely on the device itself. Apple is unable to see the data that Siri searches through to find answers to those questions, for instance.
Other than that new voice assistant, iOS 27 also brings a host of performance improvements and tweaks aimed at making the phone run faster and more efficiently. It also brings new child safety tools to control what young people can see and do on their devices.
iOS 27 runs on every device that could install last year’s update, iOS 26, which means that it goes all the way back to 2019’s iPhone 11 generation. Unusually, those on older iPhones may actually get more value from the update, since it focuses so heavily on improving performance.
When it arrives, the update can be installed from the Settings app. Users will also be prompted to download it.
