A woman who secretly scooped a lottery jackpot has revealed she is still holding down a job she hates while also working as an Uber driver despite having won millions.

The secret millionaire, who claimed to have grown up poor, took to social media to vent about her family situation after she took an undisclosed seven-figure sum following a recent win. She amazed Reddit users after saying she was choosing to live as if nothing has ever changed, and even doubled down on a job she said she hated.

The unnamed winner told how she went as far as to pick up a second job – driving for Uber part-time – all the while keeping her family none-the-wiser.

Taking to the social media platform for an “Ask Me Anything” thread, the woman said she has been living on a monthly paycheck of $2,850 (£2,124), and has left her family worried by changing the way she works and what she buys. She wrote: “I came from a poor family and we used to stress about money constantly.

“I still haven’t told anyone, and everyone thinks my life changed because I started working really hard. I started picking up more shifts and working harder, and I bought a car for my family and myself.

“They’re worried I’ll have to pay it monthly, but I actually bought a small Hyundai for $30,000 (£22,369) and paid it all at once.” She added that, while she hasn’t told them she won, she hopes to help her family members with her winnings and, at some point” not “stress so much about work any more”.

She added: “I also want my mum to be able to retire. I want us to stop living in government housing and just have a decent, comfortable life. I don’t want to stress so much about work anymore.

“These are just the things I’ve been writing down and they’re not necessarily very practical, but I know I need to start investing my money more wisely.” The woman also revealed that she hasn’t told her family as they are financially irresponsible, adding: “I love my family a lot, but none of us are really wise when it comes to money.

“I see how my family can go through their whole salary buying random stuff online every two weeks. I feel like we need financial literacy before I tell them anything.”

The secret lottery winner’s revelations about her life come after another secret lottery winner sadly missed out on their prize earlier this year. In May, Allwyn, the runners of the National Lottery, launched a major campaign after one lucky Brit was revealed to be the holder of a £1millon ticket.

The organisers revealed that the winning ticket was bought in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area following a draw on November 4, 2025, and gave the holder until May 5 to come forward.

But, they unfortunately failed to come forward, despite Allyn’s warnings for people to check their EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker codes to see if they had won. Andy Carter, senior winners advisor, said: “Despite an extensive search for the mystery millionaire, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward to claim their EuroMillions prize and has unfortunately missed out on this life-changing sum of money.

“However, the money will now benefit good causes and add to the £33m raised each week for National Lottery-funded projects, several of which can be found in the surrounding Bournemouth area.”
