Ibrahima Konate is reportedly set to LEAVE Liverpool after failing to agree a new contract. Konate, 27, is nearing the exit of his current deal which expires next month.
His representatives were in negotiations with the Liverpool hierarchy over a renewal for several months, but the defender will now depart as a free agent, as first reported by Talksport. Konate enjoyed five trophy-laden years at Anfield, having joined the Reds from German side RB Leipzig in May 2021 for £36million.
The Frenchman will join fellow Liverpool stalwarts Mo Salah and Andy Robertson in leaving the club this summer. Prior to the end of the season, Konate indicated that he was close to signing a new contract and stated that he wanted to remain on Merseyside.
“For sure there is a big chance I’m here next season,” he said in April. “This is what I always wanted.

“I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask (sporting director) Richard Hughes what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.
“Yes (it’s taken a long time) but this is a negotiation. With Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah last season it was exactly the same, I think they signed the contract in April and this is maybe how the club want it.”
Real Madrid were heavily linked with signing Konate on a free but talk of a move went quiet after his poor start to the season. The France international continued to be a mainstay under Arne Slot alongside long-time centre-back partner Van Dijk.

Liverpool have already secured a new centre-back for the 2026-27 season, signing Jeremy Jacquet from French side Rennes in a £60m deal. The Reds will also have Giovanni Leoni to call on after his debut season was ravaged by injury, restricting him to just one appearance.
But with Van Dijk’s contract expiring in June 2027, coupled with Robertson’s departure and Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving last summer, the Liverpool backline is undergoing a major transformation.
