Jon Snow heads on one last adventure to seek justice following his devastating diagnosis.

Legendary journalist, newsreader and Channel 4 icon Jon Snow is embarking on one final extraordinary investigation as he battles Alzheimer’s.

The upcoming feature-length documentary, entitled Jon Snow: A Last Big Story, chronicles the renowned broadcaster as he “rediscovers his purpose in doing what he has always done: exposing injustice, by fighting for a Zambian community whose land and water have been decimated by a mining disaster being covered up by officials”.

A stalwart of British journalism, Jon has held those in power accountable throughout his distinguished career, and audiences will gain deeper insight into the presenter’s private life through this documentary.

The film documents Jon and his wife, Dr Precious Lunga, as they navigate the reality of Jon’s diagnosis. Precious, a neuroscientist by profession, understands the vital importance of making the most of their remaining time together.

Reflecting on his diagnosis, Jon revealed: “At the beginning I wanted to hide it, there’s so much prejudice. Any sort of hint of mental decay, you’re sort of dead.

“There are moments when it pops up but it’s not an all day, every day condition, and that’s what I cling onto.

“I’ve witnessed a great deal, I hope I’ve learned something – but I’ve still got a huge amount to learn. We all have. There’s still more to do.”

Born in Sussex in September 1947, Jon is now 78 years old and will mark his 79th birthday later this year.

Jon spent over three decades at Channel 4 News from 1989, with his journalism taking him across the globe to report on major events including the fall of the Berlin Wall, Nelson Mandela’s release and Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Throughout his distinguished career, he’s accumulated numerous accolades including 10 Royal Television Society awards, with six recognising him as presenter of the year.

The synopsis for his 90-minute documentary states: “Together, they [Jon and his wife] embark on a journey. A film intended to reveal Jon’s condition to the world, but while on safari at Victoria Falls Jon hears about a catastrophic mining disaster that has received almost no media coverage.

“With Precious’ support, Jon embarks on one last big story. Over the course of a year, alongside his friend and former colleague Ben de Pear and with the help of an inspiring team of Zambian campaigners, Jon uncovers one of the worst mining and ecological disasters of modern times and sets off on a mission to get the forgotten victims justice.”

After failing to finish his law studies at Liverpool University, Jon was hired to direct the New Horizon Youth Centre, a day centre for homeless young people in central London.

By 1973 he’d become a presenter on LBC Radio, and four years later was working as a correspondent for ITN, reporting from Somalia on the conflict with Ethiopia. He went on to take up the main presenting role on Channel 4 News in 1989, a position he maintained until stepping down in 2021.
