How a ‘predator’ was left free to walk London’s streets and murder two women
- ‘Predatory’ serial sex attacker Simon Levy has been found guilty of murdering two women and raping a third, with prosecutors seeking a whole life jail term for his crime spree between 2018 and 2025.
- Levy, 40, was convicted at the Old Bailey of suffocating Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, in sexually motivated attacks in March and August 2025 respectively, and also of two counts of rape and grievous bodily harm with intent against a third woman.
- The Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police (BTP), and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have admitted significant failings, including not opposing bail and not providing relevant information, which allowed Levy to remain free and commit further violent crimes, including the second murder.
- Levy had a history of sexual assaults, including while in prison, and was repeatedly released despite being known to authorities, with delays in investigations and identification parades contributing to his ability to re-offend.
- The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has served gross misconduct and misconduct notices on a police constable and a detective sergeant, respectively, as part of an investigation into how officers handled Levy’s case.
