True crime enthusiasts are only just now discovering a truly ‘horrifying’ series that has landed in the UK.
Betrayal: Secrets and Lies is a true crime documentary series adapted from Andrea Gunning’s podcast as it investigates harrowing true stories of individuals whose lives were completely shattered by lies and deception.
From hidden double lives to financial fraud, the series explores the dark reality of finding out your loved one is not who you thought they were. Betrayal: Secrets and Lies is a spin off and continuation of the hit Betrayal franchise, which is a firm favourite amongst true crime fans.

While typical Betrayal seasons have taken a deep dive into one story per season, Secrets and Lies instead takes an anthology approach, with each episode exploring a new chilling case.
The docuseries was released in the US on ABC earlier this year, with episodes also being made available in the UK. However, viewers are only just discovering that all eight episodes can be binged in one go on Disney Plus.
Disney Plus teases: “Love. Trust. Deception. Betrayal: Secrets & Lies reveals the true stories of people whose lives are torn apart by those closest to them. Each episode follows a life undone and the courage it takes to survive.
“When loyalty turns to lies, the truth does more than break hearts. It changes everything.”
One true crime fan has recently watched the docuseries for the first time, stating it was a must watch for fans of the genre. Taking to a TikTok video, they added: “Episodes include scandalous confessions, secret lives, terrifying acts of violence, financial ruin and much more.”
They continued: “I just watched the first two episodes and I really, really enjoyed them. The first episode to be honest was quite wild.”

“Betrayal never disappoints with the horrifying dating stories and they just dropped a new season where every episode is a different story and it is just as horrifying.”
Over on IMDb, one reviewer stated: “This is a very well-done true crime documentary. I already knew about half of these stores, but they were presented through today’s lens, looking back with interviews from each survivor. And goodness, are these people survivors!”
