Hollywood icon Kiefer Sutherland has been spotted taking in one of Glasgow’s most recognisable landmarks ahead of his performance in the city this weekend.
The 59-year-old actor, best known for portraying Jack Bauer in the series 24 and President Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor, was seen visiting the famous Duke of Wellington statue in Royal Exchange Square during a stroll through Glasgow city centre.
Kiefer, who is in Scotland as part of his music tour, shared a video with fans on social media while standing at the corner of Ingram Street. Dressed casually and blending in effortlessly with locals, the actor appeared to be enjoying a relaxed day off before taking to the stage.
Posting the clip on Instagram, Kiefer joked about one of Glasgow’s best known traditions involving the Duke of Wellington statue and its trademark traffic cones. In the video he said: “I’m in Glasgow for a day off. Playing a show tomorrow night. If you actually question whether or not your in the city, the traffic cones will tell you.”
The camera then pans before the camera pans to the statue in front of the Gallery of Modern Art, with both the Duke of Wellington and his horse with cones on their heads.
Many people may not realise that Kiefer has strong Scottish family ties through his maternal grandfather, Tommy Douglas. The influential Canadian politician, widely recognised as the architect of Canada’s universal healthcare system, was born in Falkirk and spent part of his childhood in Glasgow before his family later emigrated overseas.
Fans quickly flooded the comments section with warm welcomes and recommendations for the Hollywood star during his stay in the city. One delighted follower wrote: “So thrilled the cones were in place to greet you. Enjoy.”
Another commented: “Hope you enjoy our fantastic city, it’s the best,” followed by several Scotland flag emojis. Referencing one of Kiefer’s most memorable film roles, another fan posted: “Omg David from The Lost Boys is here in Glasgow. Have a brilliant trip.”

Others were eager to offer sightseeing advice while he explored the city, with one user suggesting: We are very weird about our traffic cones. You need to visit Kelvingrove museum.”
A number of fans also invited the actor out for a traditional Scottish pint of Tennent’s during his visit. As one user simply commented: “Pint?” – although whether Kiefer fully understood the invitation remains open to debate.
