The family of a beloved bouncer who worked at Glasgow’s The Garage for over 12 years has paid tribute to the “legend”, who died unexpectedly last weekend.

Ajaz Majid, known to all as Jaz, has been remembered by those closest to him as an “angel on earth”. A beloved brother and uncle, Jaz passed away at age 48.

His family had become worried upon hearing that Jaz hadn’t shown up to work, and a visit to his home in Clarkston by his three oldest sisters on Saturday (May 16) confirmed he had tragically passed away. His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

“One in a million” Jaz came from a big and loving family, with five older sisters and a younger brother. The Majid family lost their father to a heart attack just eight months ago, making his sudden loss all the more heartbreaking. Their mother also sadly passed back in 2014.

Loved by so many, as tributes from his friends and colleagues have shown, Jaz’s loss will be felt deeply in Glasgow, but it will be felt the hardest by his family. Each of Jaz’s five sisters, his niece and his nephew have shared heartfelt tributes to him with Glasgow Live.

His eldest sister Nurseen said: “Ajaz was a much loved brother who looked out for all of his siblings, friends and family. His love was all encompassing for all who knew him. His light of goodness was all around him.

“All those who knew him, on a professional or personal basis, are devastated by his sudden loss. He was a peaceful and loving man who would never raise his voice at anyone. He was a father figure to the younger generation of the family and someone that they could all confide in.

“Nothing was too much for him. All of his siblings, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew, uncles, aunts, cousins and the wider family and friends are still in a state of shock and disbelief. RIP our loving baby brother, our guardian angel. Reunited in heaven with our parents and heaven has acquired another angel. Gone too soon, never forgotten and you are being missed so much already.”

His second eldest sister Jabeen, 58, said: “My baby brother was one in a million. Ajaz had a heart of gold, treated everyone with utmost respect. He was always there for whoever needed help, never faltered.

“A heart of gold who loved all us sisters and our children, regardless of whatever age the children are. Everyone who met him felt as though they knew him forever.

“Reading the comments online showed just how much he was adored by all. We will miss him so much. His hugs every time we meet. His phone calls, messaging. Meeting every week. Our hearts are forever broken. Baby brother rest in peace. You are now with mum and dad.”

Jabeen’s son and Jaz’s nephew Kamran, 28, said: “My uncle helped raise me, and growing up, he was the closest thing to a father I had. He was the one who would never raise his voice at us. You don’t realise how much you miss someone who gives you unconditional love until they’ve passed. I wish I gave him as much appreciation as he gave all of us.”

Jaz’s sister Tasneem, 56, said: “My brother was an angel put on this earth. He showered people with unconditional love and understanding, and he never had a bad word to say about anybody. If someone was in trouble, he’d be the first one there to assist. He’s just an angel that’s been taken away far too soon.”

Fourth oldest sister Razia said: “Ajaz had a heart of gold. Always there for us sisters and our kids. He loved our children like they were his own and they loved him just as much.

“He always had a kind word for everyone and was always there for everyone. He was never the same after losing our mum and it hit him hard when we lost our father too. He is now in heaven with them and I take comfort in that. It’s going to be so hard to live without him being in our lives. Rest in peace baby brother. We will miss you soooo much.”

His sister Zakia, 53, who is five years older than Jaz and the youngest of the sisters, said: “Where do I start? Ajaz was a much loved wee brother and is sorely missed. He had a heart of gold and would look out for everyone and make sure they were ok. He truly was an angel in disguise and has now gone back to Allah.

“We are in total shock that you have left us so soon, and I am finding it so hard and keep thinking this is just a bad dream that I will wake up from. You are now back with mum and dad, and with that, I take some comfort as you missed them like mad. Sleep well, wee brother, until we meet again. Miss you like crazy!”

Jaz’s niece Jazmynn said on behalf of his nieces and nephews: “‘Princess’ as you referred to me the minute I was born until now. To know I won’t hear those words again is a feeling I can’t describe. We were truly blessed to be able to call you our uncle and great uncle.

“Regardless of colour, race, religion, what someone had or didn’t, you never cared, you had the biggest heart. A one-of-a-kind man, the man who dropped everything to be there whenever we needed you. A major loss to all of your nieces and nephews. Our children will know what the real definition of a diamond of a man you are. Your legacy will live on through us all and many generations to come. This isn’t a goodbye uncle Ajaz, this is a ‘see you soon’.”

Jaz’s burial is to take place Masjid-E-Khazra, 140 Butterbiggins Road, G42 7AF, on either Friday (May 22) or Saturday (May 23). Glasgow Live will issue an update when a date has been confirmed to allow those known to Jaz to pay their respects.

A GofundMe to support Jaz’s family is also being set up by The Garage.
