DR Congo had surged into an early lead thanks to Brian Cipenga’s ninth-minute goal, with goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi making a number of crucial saves from Kane, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford throughout the game.
The Three Lions went into half-time 1-0 down after Kane was denied a penalty on the stroke of half-time, but the captain came to England’s rescue with a desperately needed 75th-minute equaliser before firing in a brilliant second goal four minutes from time.
