Hong Kong’s wealth landscape has evolved well beyond single-product investing, with more families now taking an integrated approach to planning that strengthens financial resilience, supports lifestyle continuity and enables long-term stewardship across generations. Hang Seng Bank is leaning into that shift by rolling out five wealth strategies: optimising the service network; shifting focus to family wealth planning; diversifying product offerings; expanding its talent pool; and better leveraging technology. The ambition is clear: to be Hong Kong’s most trusted wealth partner, building on its heritage as the leading local bank in the city to deliver professional advice and solutions that help families stay on track as markets and life plans evolve.
Hong Kong’s wealth management market continues to build momentum. The Securities and Futures Commission’s “Asset and Wealth Management Activities Survey 2025” published in July this year showed total assets under management rose 20 per cent year on year to a record HK$42.2 trillion (US$5.4 trillion) in 2025, reinforcing the city’s position as a leading global asset and wealth management hub. With policy support and ongoing efforts to deepen market connectivity and product innovation, the sector’s growth potential remains firm.
At the same time, banks are seeing changing expectations among affluent customers, with planning conversations increasingly spanning multiple life goals for their families rather than investments alone. “We’re seeing wealth planning move from an individual exercise to a family conversation,” says Rannie Lee, head of retail banking and wealth at Hang Seng Bank. “Education, protection, retirement and legacy are increasingly planned together, and we’re responding by developing products, services and channels around family needs.”

Optimising service network
One major move has been the opening of the Hysan Place Wealth Centre in Causeway Bay, Hang Seng’s first such facility in a grade A commercial building on Hong Kong Island. The location was chosen carefully.
“Hang Seng has been growing with the district since 1964, when we established the Causeway Bay branch on Yee Wo Street,” Lee says. “We have been supporting customers’ evolving needs as the district developed its edge in commerce, lifestyle and connectivity over the decades. It’s now the right time to provide customers with a more tailored experience – with the space and comfort for detailed wealth planning for their families and life goals.”
Located on the 29th floor of Hysan Place, the new wealth centre spans nearly 6,300 sq ft and is purpose-built for comprehensive wealth planning discussions, with 13 private meeting rooms, harbour-view areas and a signature Sky Bar, intended to provide a calmer environment for longer conversations.

Footprint for connection
Earlier this year, Hang Seng opened its first wealth centre in a grade A commercial building at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui, and it will continue to replicate the model in prime locations.
“Building on our heritage of customer-centricity, we are aspiring to be customers’ trusted wealth partner. That’s why we’re building a connected footprint that supports customers in their day-to-day routines as well as in deeper planning conversations,” Lee says.
Hang Seng has a unique edge as the first bank to operate, since the 1980s, a branch network in MTR stations in Hong Kong. With day-to-day banking supported through transit-linked service points and street-level branches, the bank positions its wealth centres as dedicated settings for in-depth, goal-based conversations for affluent customers. Its centre in Causeway Bay is one example of how the model comes together.
The bank recently refurbished its MTR Causeway Bay Station Retail Banking Centre in June, with ATMs and a smart teller counter installed for everyday banking transactions. Nearby, Hang Seng’s Causeway Bay branch continues to serve customers in the area, while the street-level outlet on Hysan Avenue is a pet-friendly branch designed to accommodate customers visiting with their pets.
“The winning model is continuity – customers should feel supported in every aspect of their lives. That’s why we’re connecting our mobile app, MTR service points, branches and wealth centres into one seamless experience,” Lee adds.
To extend its reach, Hang Seng opened the MTR West Kowloon Station Retail Banking Centre in August. The refurbished facility in Central MTR station is set to open later this year, and the bank says more wealth centres will follow over the next 18 months.

Planning starts with family
With family now at the centre of many wealth conversations, Hang Seng has been innovating traditional bank accounts to meet their evolving needs. Family+ account, introduced in 2023, allows customers to set up multiple sub-accounts that can be assigned to different family members each with distinct wealth goals attached. Main account holders can categorise their finances and tailor financial services across different sub-accounts, making wealth planning easy for the family.
The revamped FamilyPower Multi-Currency Life Insurance Plan 2 also offers financial flexibility, providing family members with a stable income inflow as part of broader planning for the family, beyond traditional protection.
“For Hang Seng Bank, banking isn’t a transaction – it’s a long-term relationship built around what matters to our customers,” Lee says. “Markets will shift, goals will evolve and life will move through different stages, and we’re committed to being there with the right advice, tools and support to help our customers – and their families – stay on track.”

Products, talent and technology
Products remain the backbone of any wealth proposition. To meet increasingly diverse needs, from daily liquidity to long-term protection, Hang Seng offers one of the most comprehensive investment line-ups among local retail banks. It spans 23 product categories including funds; equities; bonds; structured products; and gold. Historically, it is one of the few banks to offer physical gold products. The bank also supports 10 currencies, enabling customers to plan across life stages and market cycles.
While banking remains a relationship business, Hang Seng continues to invest in people and technology to raise service quality. The bank runs some 10 relationship manager recruitment campaigns each year and expects to grow this section of its staff by 20 per cent, supported by digital tools to deliver clearer portfolio insights and personalised market content for its customers.
