Greggs fans are reminiscing about a “lost” menu items that they think was the “best” thing the store sold. Over the years Greggs have sold a number of different items, whether it was for a brief promotion or holiday, or a long term item that lost popularity.

With every change to a menu, it’s always going to disappoint some people more than others. While some will grieve the loss of their favourite item quietly, others will post their grievances on social media for many others to see.

This is true for one person who posted in the R/Greggsappreciation community on Reddit to talk about their favourite missed food from the bakery giant.

The poster said: “Missed foods. Please bring back the Macaroni Pie. Thanks for all the responses everyone, its good to know I’m not the only one missing old foods, hopefully Greggs see all of our comments and take action.”

The Macaroni Pie was a traditional dish on the menu in Scotland, but was discontinued by Greggs in June 2015 due to low sales.

The decision was a huge topic of debate at the time, with the matter even being discussed in Scottish Parliament following a huge petition to try and bring the beloved item back.

The petition on Change.org asked Greggs to “restore the Macaroni Pie ” and had almost 2,000 signatures at the time.

Former Member of Scottish Parliament, Kezia Dugdale, at the time called for cross-party support to #savethepie, but Nicola Sturgeon revealed that while she was “not a lover of the macaroni pie”, she was lobbied on the issue by her own family.

She told MSPs: “I got a stern talking to on the telephone last night from my father that he expected me to join the campaign to save the macaroni pie.

“I’ve always been an obedient and loyal daughter and this occasion is no different.”

However, Greggs stuck to their decision not to bring back the pie and said: “Unfortunately over recent years it had become the smallest selling line from our savoury counters in Scotland.”

Despite the outrage when the product was discontinued, many people shared that they did not like the item.

One person said: “Never tried it, sounded manky so didn’t bother.”

Other items that people said they missed from the menu included the steak and cheese roll, a simple iced bun, the ham and cheese pasty, and the chicken katsu bake.
