Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to oversee the distribution of subsidised fertiliser across the state.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the directive was announced during the launch of the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertiliser to farmers in Kano’s 44 local government areas.

The statement said, “The Governor gave the directive during the flag-off of the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertilizer to farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state.”

Governor Yusuf explained that involving the anti-corruption agencies would help ensure the fertiliser reaches genuine farmers while preventing diversion, hoarding, and other forms of abuse.

He also urged the 44 local government chairmen to handle the exercise with honesty, fairness, and accountability, saying the programme is designed to reduce farming costs, improve agricultural output, and boost food security.

The governor warned that anyone caught diverting the fertiliser or disrupting the exercise would face legal consequences.

The statement added that “he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, describing agriculture as a key driver of Kano State’s economy.”
