Girl rescued with Fairy liquid after getting leg stuck in rock for hours on Dartmoor
Rescuers working to free a schoolgirl trapped on Hound Tor, Dartmoor, Devon (Devon Cave Rescue Organisation)
An 11-year-old schoolgirl named Shannon was rescued after her leg became trapped between granite boulders on Hound Tor in Dartmoor, Devon, during a school trip.
She was stuck for over four hours, prompting a multi-agency rescue effort involving the Devon Cave Rescue Organisation (DCRO) and other emergency services.
DCRO team leader Olly Rees purchased a bottle of Fairy washing-up liquid, which was then used as a lubricant to help slide Shannon’s leg free from the rocks.
Rescuers hailed the washing-up liquid as the ‘real hero’ of the operation, stating it ‘made all the difference’ in freeing the girl, who escaped unhurt.
The rescue team signed the bottle for Shannon to keep, and Mr Rees suggested other rescue teams should consider adding the household item to their kit.
