Germany’s entire rail network halted due to major outage
Deadly heatwave grips Europe as temperatures soar across continent
Germany‘s national railway network experienced a nationwide halt late on Tuesday due to a critical failure in its GSM-R digital communication system.
The disruption left countless passengers stranded, leading to long queues at station information desks as travellers sought alternative routes.
Deutsche Bahn, the primary operator, confirmed the issue, stating the cause had been identified but not specified, and that technicians were working on a solution.
The company apologised for the situation and offered taxi and hotel vouchers, also making trains available at stations for stranded passengers.
Services began to resume approximately two hours after the outage was reported, though significant delays and cancellations were still anticipated across parts of the network.
