Some teams enjoy success that fades almost as quickly as it arrives. Others spend years building towards the summit before finally reaching it.

And then there are the rare sides whose dominance becomes something more enduring, a dynasty.

European football has witnessed several such eras since the European Champion Clubs’ Cup was launched in 1955. From Real Madrid’s unprecedented early dominance to Ajax’s revolutionary Total Football

According to BBC Sport on Wednesday, these are the top 10 clubs ranked

Real Madrid (1955–60) — Five consecutive European Cups, the benchmark for European dominance.

Ajax (1968–73) — Three straight titles and the revolutionary Total Football philosophy.

Real Madrid (2013–18) — Four Champions League titles in five years, including an unprecedented three in a row in the Champions League era.

Liverpool (1976–84) — Four European Cups across an extraordinary period of English dominance.

AC Milan (1988–95) — Three Champions League/European Cup triumphs and an extraordinary run of finals.

Barcelona — Guardiola’s era, defined as much by its influence on football as by its two Champions League titles.

Bayern Munich (1973–76) — Three consecutive European Cups built around Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Sepp Maier.

Benfica (1960–62) — Back-to-back European Cups under Béla Guttmann, with Eusébio emerging as the superstar.

Inter Milan (1963–65) — Helenio Herrera’s “Grande Inter” winning consecutive European Cups.

Paris Saint-Germain (2024–) — Included because the article views their recent success as the possible beginning of a dynasty.
