A French seaside resort is set to host a week of discounted activities to tempt British tourists back to its shores.
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, a coastal commune on the northern coast of France, aims to show visitors the French “art de vivre” this bank holiday.
From 25 to 31 May, the resort will stage a series of events “specially designed to delight our British guests who want to experience the Le Touquet way of life”.
According to the town, free or affordable activities will be delivered in English just a few miles from the UK coast.
Le Touquet has long been considered the “most British of French resorts”, added the seaside town.
In its heyday, it attracted notable British names, including PG Wodehouse and Winston Churchill.
Following Brexit, the area became less popular with British tourists, who once accounted for 20 per cent of its visitors, reported The Times.
The week’s itinerary includes a town market, guided horse rides along the beach, sand yachting sessions, bike tours and shrimp fishing.
There will also be guided tours of Le Touquet–Elizabeth II Airport, a gathering of classic cars and dinner from Michelin star chef Alexandre Gauthier.
The tourist office is also offering welcome bags as a “little gift” for visitors.
Kate Landry, a British-born Touquet councillor, told Radio France: “The idea is to allow our British visitors to experience activities they might not have dared to try before, out of a fear of not understanding the instructions,
“So, we are going to offer them in English, enabling them to truly make the most of it.”
