At least four vehicles and other properties worth millions of naira have been razed in a fire that ravaged a mechanic workshop in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred at a mechanic workshop located in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road in Ibadan.

The incident, according to sources, occurred on Saturday evening.

It was also gathered that a container within the premises was ravaged by the fire.

No life was lost in the incident, DAILY POST gathered.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

Akinwande, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, noted that the operation was jointly carried out with personnel of the Federal Fire Service.

He said, “Upon arrival, it was discovered that a container and four vehicles at the mechanic workshop were engulfed by fire, with thick smoke billowing from the vehicles and container involved in the incident.

“The fire was swiftly contained by Oyo State Fire Service personnel, preventing further spread to nearby properties.

“The cause of the fire was sparks from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials.

“No casualty was recorded. The firefighting operation was jointly carried out with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.”

DAILY POST gathered that a shop and a residential building in Ogbomoso were also ravaged by fire on Saturday.

The incident occurred at No. 5 Ile Atagbonrin, Stadium Area, Ogbomoso.

It was learnt that properties worth millions of naira were affected by the incident.

Akinwande also confirmed the incident.

He said, “Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a prefabricated shop adjoining a six-room residential building was engulfed by fire.”
