A member of the Yansakai vigilante group has been killed, while four suspected bandits were neutralised during a joint security operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Tuesday night by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the incident began when a large group of armed bandits, believed to have crossed into Kebbi from the Gumi Forest in neighbouring Zamfara State, attacked Gadar Wanda, a community on the outskirts of Danko Town, and rustled an unspecified number of livestock.
Following a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised police tactical teams, local vigilantes and members of the Yansakai group to pursue the attackers.
“The security operatives caught up with the bandits and engaged them in a gun battle. During the exchange of fire, four suspected bandits were neutralised, forcing the remaining attackers to flee,” Makama wrote.
However, a member of the Yansakai vigilante group, identified as Tukur Ukuhu, 40, lost his life during the operation.
A Police Constabulary officer, Shehu Mohammed Maikaji, also sustained gunshot injuries.
The injured officer was taken to Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital in Zuru for treatment, while the body of the deceased vigilante member was also taken to the hospital before it was released to his family for burial after necessary procedures.
According to the post, security agencies have continued efforts to recover the rustled livestock and track down the fleeing bandits.
