Northern has launched a flash sale with millions of tickets for just £2 – but travellers will have to act quickly as savings end tomorrow.
The British rail operator has released four million discounted tickets for journeys to destinations in the north of England.
Northern, the second largest train operator in the UK, operates 2,650 services a day between more than 500 stations.
Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly, Sheffield, Liverpool Lime Street, York and Blackpool North are among locations that will be accessible via £2 fares.
The three-day sale ends tomorrow, Friday 4 September, for travel taken between 9 September and 23 October 2026.
Rail passengers can buy sale tickets on Northern’s app, online and at ticket offices and on ticket machines at stations managed by Northern.
Alex Hornby, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “With millions of tickets available for just £2 each, our Flash Sale will make the railway even more appealing, and we believe it will inspire everyone to explore everything our fantastic region has to offer, from bustling cities to countryside and stunning coastlines.
“Customers will need to book early to avoid disappointment – once they’re gone, they’re gone!”
In August, figures suggested that train passengers could be paying hundreds more a year in rail fares as regulated fares rise next year.
According to the latest inflation figures, rail fares could increase by more than 4 per cent in 2027.
That would mean an annual season ticket from Brighton to London rising by £219 to £5,423.
A flexi ticket for travel two days per week over a year from Leeds to Manchester would increase by £151.35 to £3,754.95.
The potential rise is based on the Office for National Statistics announcing that Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation rose to 3.2 per cent in July.
