Flood occasioned by torrential rainfall has sacked the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi, from his palace.

Ezechuamagha reportedly left his palace after flood submerged his entire palace, including several exotic cars parked within the compound.

For uninterrupted days, Anambra State has been witnessing heavy rainfall, sometimes crippling economic activities.

This has also caused flood in certain communities, and the palace of the king of Ogidi is the latest.

Ogidi is particularly notorious for flooding and erosion. A part of Ogidi, along the Awka-Onitsha old road, has remained impassable for years because of flood.

Several people living along that area have long abandoned their houses, while the Anambra State government has repeatedly assured that it would work on the road.

Last year, shortly before the Anambra governorship election, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of the state, who was also the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the election, had visited the area and solicited for votes.

He also visited the flooded section of the road and pledged to fix it. Up til date, work is yet to commence on the portion, leading to increased flooding of homes and businesses around the area.

A social media user, Mr Iyke Orji stated that it is a surprise that flooding has remained a problem in Ogidi, despite the visit and promise of the governor.

He added that: “In September – October 2025, Ogidi people gathered together and raised a total of N50 million.

“They didn’t fix their roads, they didn’t empower their young people, they didn’t dig borehole, they didn’t build any infrastructure with the money.

“They gave it to Soludo for him to add and continue his governorship campaign, whereas, Ogidi has been overtaken by flood for over 25 years.

“The 50 million would have solved over 40% of the flood crisis in the community, but they choose to chase clout, now they’re calling on Mr governor to come and help them.”

As of the time of filing this report, it was not clear where the first class monarch relocated to.
