FG congratulates Colombia’s president-elect

The Federal Government has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, on his electoral victory ahead of his inauguration on August 7.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, Nigeria described the outcome of the election as a democratic expression of the will of the Colombian people and expressed its readiness to work closely with the incoming administration.

The statement, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the Federal Government looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Colombia in areas of mutual interest.

“Nigeria and Colombia share a steadfast commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development,” the statement read.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries, particularly in trade, investment, security and South-South cooperation.

It also expressed confidence that, under the leadership of President-elect de la Espriella, the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Colombia would continue to grow for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The Federal Government wished the President-elect success as he prepares to assume office, expressing optimism that his administration would advance peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people.

De la Espriella is expected to be officially sworn in as Colombia’s president on August 7.
