Lewis Hamilton is level with reigning world champion Lando Norris in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship standings after a sixth-place finish at the Miami Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion is hungry for improvement as he and his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc aim to close the gap on front-runner Kimi Antonelli.

Norris and McLaren colleague Oscar Piastri joined Antonelli on the podium as the F1 season resumed following the cancellation of grands prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Hamilton clinched his first top-three finish as a Ferrari driver in March but has finished sixth in each of his last two outings.

The 41-year-old was left frustrated after his Miami struggles, with Ferrari’s F1 simulator coming under the spotlight. In the fallout from the race, he has also called for an investigation which could help the Italian team make up ground.

Hamilton and the rest of the field have more than a fortnight before they return to action in Canada. Here, Mirror Sport takes a closer look at the latest headlines from the sport.

Hamilton shared reservations about Ferrari’s F1 simulator after a weekend to forget in Miami. He qualified in sixth, three places behind Charles Leclerc in his team’s other car, though he finished two places higher after the Monegasque was handed a 20-second penalty.

“I don’t like simulators in general, but I’m at the simulator every week in the build-up to this race and working on correlation constantly,” Hamilton said. “You go on it, you prepare for the track, you drive it and you get the car set-up to a certain place – and then you come to the track and that set-up doesn’t work.”

The Brit hinted he would try a different approach going forward. He added: “I’m not going to go on the simulator between now and the next race.

“I’ll still go and hold meetings at the factory and stuff – but I’m just going to back away from it for a little bit and see. When we went to China I had the best weekend without the sim.”

The 41-year-old has also called for his Ferrari team to investigate whether there is still room for improvement this season after rivals found another level in Miami. The front wing was one area where the former world champion paid particular attention to what other teams have been doing.

Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull are doing something different with the front wing to us. So we need to look into that to see whether or not there’s something we can improve on,” Hamilton said.

“Just look at everyone else’s wing and look at ours, you’ll see it looks different. I don’t know if that’s necessarily the whole thing, but I wonder what that’s doing, because others seem to have it and they improved.”
