The “silent protests” in Glasgow and Edinburgh in recent weeks will send an eerie chill across the country. Videos of the events show men arrayed in a military-style formation, literally wearing the black shirts associated so strongly with the dark old days of fascism.
It is clear there are some people who would love nothing more than a return to such divided times. But, of course, the shady individuals who are organising the gatherings have not yet shown their faces or declared their true aims.
They instead facelessly badge the videos with slogans like “Glasgow Rising” – highly suggestive of turbulent and potentially violent times to come.
That is why the Daily Record is publishing details of the abhorrent events and giving clear warning of the real intention behind them. The involvement of Sandy Chugg, a former football hooligan and BNP activist, provides a major clue to their real intent.

Chugg’s long-time pal Craig Houston has, in recent years, recreated himself as an ‘investigative journalist’, blogger and now a Restore Britain member.
His brazen videos in towns around Scotland are openly fanning the flames of racism, seeking to depict Scotland as a land torn apart by rampaging criminal immigrants.
Houston is living proof that Scotland can no longer feel immune to the hatred that is gripping so many communities in England. In such times it is crucial that we see any “rising” of extreme views coming – and oppose them at every turn.
The Tartan Army have been drowning their sorrows since our national football team’s heartbreaking World Cup exit. But now a Scotch whisky could play a key role in dumping the Auld Enemy out of the tournament.
Mexico manager Javier Aguirre – whose team play England in the last 16 at 1am on Monday – has revealed his favourite tipple is Lagavulin, a whisky distilled on Islay.

Aguirre says it’s his secret weapon but he’s run out of the single malt ahead of the big game against Tomas Tuchel’s Three Lions.
Now the race is on to get a bottle into the hands of Aguirre. And let’s face it, he’s going to need all the help he can get against England superstar Harry Kane.
But if the Tartan Army are staying up late to cheer on Mexico in the wee small hours of Monday, we’d advise a cup of tea rather than a bottle of Lagavulin if they want to make work on Tuesday.
