Mare of Easttown is an ideal watch for those who enjoy gripping crime series such as HBO favourite True Detective, ITV’s Broadchurch and BBC’s The Fall and Happy Valley, reports the Express.
The HBO miniseries landed in 2021, with British Oscar winner and Titanic star Kate Winslet taking the lead role as titular detective Marianne ‘Mare’ Sheehan.
Set in the fictional Pennsylvania suburb of Easttown, Mare is tasked with cracking the baffling murder of a new mother, all while desperately trying to prevent her own personal life from falling apart.
Mare of Easttown also featured Hacks actress Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice from Mean Girls, American Horror Story star Evan Peters, Sosie Bacon, David Denman, Neal Huff, James McArdle, Guy Pearce, Cailee Spaeny, John Douglas Thompson, and Joe Tippett.

Numerous Reddit users drew favourable comparisons between Mare of Easttown and the likes of Broadchurch, The Fall, Happy Valley and Shetland.
Over on IMDb, scores of viewers have posted glowing reviews of the series.
One viewer wrote in their 10/10 review: “Best series I have seen in awhile! Quality quality quality from top to bottom. Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast were perfect. Directing was exceptional.”
The same user concluded: “Best show I have seen this year and is also one of the best mystery detective shows of all time. This is a must watch. An absolute masterpiece.”

Winslet revealed to Deadline earlier this year that there was a “strong likelihood” Mare of Easttown would return for a second series, with The Reader star reprising her acclaimed role as the troubled small-town detective.
She went on to hint to the publication that filming for the series could potentially take place at some stage in 2027.
