A former Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, Mohammad Haruna, has formally entered the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship race after purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms for the state’s top office.

Haruna, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket at the governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.

Speaking with journalists after a meeting with local government and ward coordinators in Nasarawa Eggon on Tuesday, he pledged to prioritise education, agriculture, infrastructure, health and youth empowerment if elected governor in 2027.

He said his ambition is driven by a desire to deploy his experience in technology, public service and development planning to accelerate growth in the state.

“I have the capacity, and I am qualified to govern the state. I have done a lot for the state during my time in public office; the records are there, visible and verifiable.

With the experiences I have gathered over the years, I am confident of bringing speedy development to the state if I am elected into office as governor in 2027,” he said.

Haruna also stressed the importance of peace and unity, adding that his administration would focus on empowering youths and women if given the mandate.

He appreciated his supporters across the 13 LGAs of the state and urged them to intensify mobilisation ahead of the primaries.

“I am grateful for the massive support that I have been getting from party members and supporters across the state. I pledged to work towards the betterment of Nasarawa if elected,” he added.

He also charged supporters to extend mobilisation across all communities in the state ahead of the APC primaries.

The coordinator of Nassarawa Eggon LGA, Suleiman Angbashim, pledged support for his aspiration, saying the group would work for his emergence in the primaries.

The development was further boosted as several support groups, including DFS Support Group and Barade Youth Support Group, also declared backing for his ambition, citing ideological alignment.

The coordinators also reportedly conferred on him the honorary Eggon name “ATARI,” meaning victory.
