The United Kingdom could be set to rack up some extra points during the Eurovision Song Contest thanks to Germany. With the Contest’s grand finale taking place on Saturday (May 16), British hopeful Look Mum No Computer is aiming to win over viewers and rescue the UK from the dreaded ‘nil points’ and our customary position at the foot of the leaderboard. This can now be achieved thanks to the track “Eins, Zwei, Drei” by singer Sam Battle.
The synthpop gem, which explores the battle to escape the conventional 9-5 grind, has already made history as the first British entry not to be performed entirely in English. And it appears the Germans are delighted with the decision to shake things up.
In a statement issued to the Daily Star, Germany’s embassy in the UK has confirmed that they will be supporting singer Sam Battle as he performs in German before nearly 200 million viewers. This follows significant backlash from some who insisted it should be entirely in English.

“UK-German relations are at an all-time high − and not just because Thomas Tuchel is doing an amazing job managing England!” they said. “On top of that we now have a UK Eurovision entry that is partly in German,” reports the Daily Star.
“That’s UK-German friendship in action! Learning German is fun and surprisingly easy. After this year’s Eins, Zwei, Drei, maybe the UK’s 2027 Eurovision entry might even count into double digits: ‘Zehn, Elf, Zwölf’!
“Either way, at the Embassy we’ll be cheering the UK all the way to a very respectable second place − just behind Germany, of course.” It comes as Sam revealed he considered performing in Welsh at the Contest, but discovered it proved too challenging vocally.
Speaking to That Eurovision Site at the opening ceremony, Sam confessed he wanted to showcase the UK just a touch more authentically. He explained: “I was trying to fit Welsh but it didn’t quite fit.
“But I feel good about my track,” he added. “I like pushing the boat out, finding the little wiggle of things to make things a bit more individual.”
Look Mum No Computer will take to the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest final in Vienna on Saturday. The YouTube star, whose real name is Sam Battle, previously revealed he has built most of the staging himself for his performance, including “mega synthesiser” panels.
Since beginning his YouTube career in 2013, the Lincolnshire-born musician has amassed more than 85 million views and 1.4 million combined subscribers and followers across his various social accounts.
He has become known for his videos about making and playing unusual electronic music equipment, having made an organ out of Furby toys, fused a synthesiser with a Raleigh Chopper bicycle, and made a triple oscillator synthesiser out of Nintendo Game Boy video game consoles.

The competition has faced its share of drama, after five nations − Ireland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Spain and Slovenia − withdrew from the Contest over Israel’s participation. A total of 35 countries will battle for the coveted glass trophy this weekend.
