Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has said that Manchester United and Liverpool have “no hope this season” and believes both teams will find it challenging to qualify for the Champions League.
This season, Manchester United have managed to secure only one victory in their first four Premier League matches, suffering defeats against Hull City and Manchester City.
On the other hand, Liverpool remain unbeaten under the guidance of new manager Andoni Iraola; however, three of their four matches have ended in draws, including a goalless draw with Fulham on Saturday.
It is still early in Iraola’s tenure, having joined from Bournemouth during the summer, while Michael Carrick is facing difficulties for the first time since taking charge at Old Trafford in January.

Despite this, Petit does not foresee a bright future for either club, stating that their best hope in the Premier League is to compete for fourth place.
In an interview with BOYLE Sports, Petit said:
“Liverpool and Manchester United have no hope this season.
“Both teams are conceding too many goals, similar to Chelsea, but I have even less confidence in both clubs and their actions in the transfer market.
“They are lacking key players, making it difficult to envision how they could be considered favourites to secure a top-four finish, especially together.
“They might contend for that final spot after Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, but that position could very well be claimed by another team.”
