England fans boo hydration break as heavy rain showers New York Stadium

Supporters arrive at New York/New Jersey Stadium for Panama v England
  • England fans widely booed the hydration break during the first half of their World Cup clash against Panama at a wet and mild New York Stadium.
  • Upon the referee’s whistle for the hydration break, fans began to boo with jeers echoing around the stadium as the rain continued.
  • England supporters also booed the hydration breaks during the Three Lions’ previous World Cup games against Croatia and Ghana, as the stoppages continue to draw criticism.
  • Fifa decided to mandate that each game of the competition include two three-minute stoppages, one in each half, for the first time at this tournament to help players cope with the intense heat and humidity of the North American summer.
  • England must win or better Ghana’s result against Croatia to qualify as group winners from Group L but a draw against Panama and a win by Ghana over Croatia will see The Three Lions qualify as Group L runners-up; If England qualify as group winners, they will next play at 5pm BST on Wednesday 1 July, but if Thomas Tuchel’s side finish second, they will play at 12am BST on 3 July.
