Emir of Gumel dies at 84 after prolonged illness

The Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani III, has died at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.

A palace source confirmed the monarch’s death on Thursday.

“He died while receiving treatment in Egypt, the palace would announce burial arrangements later,” the source said.

Born on December 12, 1942, Ahmed Muhammad Sani III was the 16th Emir of Gumel and was known for his contributions to public service before ascending the throne.

Before becoming emir, Sani served as Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs and Culture in the former Kano State Government between 1978 and 1980.

During his time in office, he played a key role in establishing Triumph Newspaper and CTV67, now known as ARTV. He also supervised the expansion of Radio Kano.
