EastEnders star Shane Richie pleads not guilty to drink driving charge

- EastEnders actor Shane Richie, appearing under his real name Shane Roche, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of drink-driving at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.
- The 62-year-old was arrested at a Tesco petrol station in Harlow, Essex, on 29 July after allegedly driving a white Hyundai while above the alcohol limit.
- Court heard that Richie allegedly recorded a breath reading of 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
- Appearing via video-link from a hotel, the actor apologised to the judge after briefly losing connection during the hearing.
- Deputy District Judge Christopher Maynard granted Richie bail ahead of his trial at the same court on 17 November.
