A bombshell death has rocked the Knight-Mitchell family as EastEnders‘ week of special episodes comes to an explosive end. The BBC soap finished this week, called ‘The Night That Changes Everything’, by looking at what happened to George Knight after Vicki Fowler‘s wedding.

After learning from his daughter Gina that his father was still spouting racist remarks to her white boyfriend Harry Mitchell, George stormed home to confront Eddie. He realised that his father hadn’t changed at all and had lied about being repentant so that he wouldn’t die in prison.

During their argument, Eddie claimed he only killed George’s biological father Henry so that George would have a better upbringing. He also revealed that Nicola Mitchell had convinced George to take Eddie in because he was paying her, exposing her dark secret.

Finally, in a truly horrifying move, Eddie accused George of being a coward, as the then child was hiding in the room when Henry was murdered.

George thanked Eddie for curing him of any lingering thoughts about being his son and owing him anything. As Eddie began to choke, the dying man begged for water. Rather than give it to him, George drank it himself, but not before promising: “I will make sure you’re buried in an unmarked grave, no where near Mum.”

When Nicola returned home, George was sat in front of Eddie’s corpse. He made it clear that he knew what Nicola had done and wanted nothing to do with it.

Later, he looked on impassively as his adoptive father’s body was carted away in the back of a coroner’s van. He looked far less affected by the sight than Denise Fox, who had only learned that day that she had cancer.

Fans were delighted with George’s decision to let Eddie choke. One said: “George drinking the water in front of Eddie was perfect.” Another added: “I was cheering him on.”

A third said that while they loved what happened between George and Eddie, they hoped it wouldn’t ruin what George has with Nicola: “Yasss to George drinking the water. Hope he forgives Nicola though just cos I like them together.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Denise finally told her husband Jack Branning that she was diagnosed with cancer, but was unable to tell her daughter Chelsea. Chelsea was busy worrying over her own child Jordan, who had been hit by a car that night and was unconscious in hospital.

Jordan’s accident was part of Monday and Tuesday’s episodes, when an unknowing Ian Beale reversed over him whilst trying to take his mother, Kathy, home from the wedding.

Ian was later arrested for dangerous driving, as he failed a breathalyser test, despite only having one drink. But as the police pointed out, it’s not the number of drinks that’s mentioned in the law, it’s the blood alcohol count.
