The naira extended its appreciation against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday, ending the week on a positive note.

Central Bank of Nigeria data showed that the naira further gained against the dollar on Friday, trading at N1,346.49 compared with N1,347.63 recorded on Thursday.

This means that, on a day-to-day basis, the naira strengthened marginally by N1.14 against the dollar.

Meanwhile, at the black market, the naira remained flat at N1,405 against the dollar on Friday, the same rate recorded the previous day.

This comes as the country’s foreign reserves stood at $52.66 billion as of August 19, 2026.

Recall that, in the week under review, the naira recorded more gains, with a single loss on Wednesday.

On a week-on-week basis, the naira recorded an N11.12 gain against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market.
