A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kenneth Okonkwo, has reminded the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, how he stood by him when he was harassed in Edo State.
DAILY POST reported that an Anambra State High Court, Onitsha, recently authorised Peter Obi to serve court documents to Okonkwo through alternative means after attempts at direct service were unsuccessful.
The court directed that the documents be affixed at Okonkwo’s last known residence in Nsukka, Enugu State, or delivered to any adult present at that location.
The legal action was initiated following accusations made by Okonkwo, alleging that Obi and certain NDC leaders in the South-East solicited additional payments from candidates vying for the party’s tickets for National Assembly positions.
Okonkwo further alleged that Obi personally compiled candidate lists from a hotel room in Abuja.
In response to the allegations, Obi’s legal representatives issued a pre-action letter demanding a retraction, a public apology on Channels Television and social media, N5 billion in damages, and a commitment from Okonkwo to refrain from making similar statements in the future.
Speaking on Channel Television, Okonkwo was urged by his interviewer to find a means of reaching out to Peter Obi to settle their differences. He said, “I don’t think I should. You remember even when the governor of Edo State harassed him, even when his life was in danger. I wasn’t speaking for him again.
“But I told him [the governor] that even though I’m not speaking for him (Obi) again, he’s my brother, and if anything happens to him, you will know that even if a madman has brothers. I came out to defend you, but you know what, he is taking me to court.”
