The Countryfile presenter made a candid farming admission during the latest episode while visiting the nation’s largest growers of a well-loved crop.

According to the broadcaster’s schedule, Joe Crowley, Margherita Taylor alongside Adam delve into a side of the island rarely witnessed by visitors.

From peculiar marine creatures and distinctive environments to produce typically linked with milder climates. Joe assisted in deploying specialist cameras beneath the surface to study marine wildlife, while Margherita supported National Trust volunteers monitoring the population of an exceptionally rare bee species.
Meanwhile, Adam paid a visit to The Garlic Farm. They represent the UK’s biggest garlic cultivators.
Their website reveals The Garlic Farm is a family-run enterprise, owned and operated by the Boswell family, who have collectively dedicated numerous years to enjoying, discovering and understanding everything garlic-related. The family revealed they’ve been cultivating garlic for over half a century, ever since Granny Norah first planted those initial cloves in her garden. The operation remains in family hands to this day.
Adam, a 60-year-old farmer who became part of the cherished BBC show in 2001, has become a recognisable presence in homes nationwide. This week, he visited the farming dynasty who’ve been operating their garlic enterprise across three generations.
Presenting their produce, they explained: “We have stretched garlic in every direction it could possibly go. We have 30 products – things like garlic beer and garlic ice cream.”
Adam assisted the family in gathering elephant garlic stalks, which were described to him as resembling garlic-flavoured asparagus-like stems.
Upon learning the plants originated from a solitary garlic clove, he confessed: “It all comes from one clove? Well there you go, I’m a farmer and I didn’t know that.”
Subsequently, he sat down with additional family members for a meal featuring the freshly picked garlic stalks. The spread appeared complete with numerous other garlic-enhanced ingredients ideal for a substantial salad.

Reflecting on their enterprise, Adam declared what they’ve accomplished is “quite extraordinary” and “a remarkable achievement”.
The family’s matriarch acknowledged she shared his sentiment and took pride in seeing relatives continue managing the farm. Adam commended them further, noting they’re “not lacking in enthusiasm.” At the programme’s conclusion, Joe and Margherita reunited, though Adam was notably absent. In his stead, Joe revealed he had arranged for them to receive a small present.
They unveiled and began tucking into a small pot of ice cream, with Joe challenging them to identify the flavour. Sampling it, they confessed it was ‘delicious’ but struggled to determine the precise flavour beyond detecting chocolate notes.
