Coronation Street star Harriet Bibby has teased that her character killed Theo Silverton.

The actress, 29, who has played Summer Spellman on the ITV soap since 2021, has seen her alter-ego become wrapped up in programme’s latest whodunnit following the death of evil Theo Silverton. The scaffolder, who was played by former Tracy Beaker star James Cartwright, was killed off at the end of the soap’s much-hyped Murder Week after almost a year of abusing Summer’s adoptive father Todd Grimshaw.

And now a comment made by actress Harriet could suggest she could well be Theo’s killer. Asked about being a suspect, something she said suggested she has every reason to be on the list.

In the weeks leading up to it, Summer learned that Theo was also responsible for the death of her other adoptive dad Billy Mayhew by leaving him to die in a minibus that exploded in the programme’s crossover with Emmerdale.

Now, Summer is one of several official suspects, along with Todd himself, Todd’s figure George Shuttleworth, his partner Christina Boyd, Theo’s ex-wife Danielle Silverton and Theo’s former colleague Mikey North.

All of them have some form of motivation as they were incensed at Theo’s abusive behaviour but now Harriet, who took over the part of Summer from original actress Matilda Freeman, has hinted that the university student could be responsible after all.

Asked what it’s like working on the soap’s ever-present police station sets, she said: “Yeah, it’s quite different. Being interviewed by the police, in that police cell environment, it’s a very different sort of scene.

“When we went into the police questioning rooms, I said I’ve never been in here, and everyone was like, what? But Summer’s such a good character, she’s not really mischievous, she’s not evil, we’ve not seen her seek revenge before.”

But Summer is just one in a long list of suspects in what is the soap’s latest of several crime stories

It was then that Harriet insisted that her alter-ego deserves to be a suspect, which could go a long way when trying to work out who is guilty.

She added: “So this is such a flip on its head. She’s such an unexpected suspect in this, but it’s also completely understandable why she’s a suspect, and so she should be.”

Harriet, who previously appeared in episodes of Doctors and Brassic before joining Coronation Street, even believed that, within the context of the story, it could easily have been Summer who ended up dead at the hands of Theo.

She said: “I think there’s a scenario where she might have felt like it was either her that was going to be hurt, or maybe even killed, or it was him.

“I think when people are pushed to that point, it’s interesting to see what they will do to survive. It’s no secret that Theo was very threatening, he even said that he was going to bury Summer if she got in his way, so there could have been a moment where she felt like it was either her or him. “
