Gary Windass did see Theo Silverton the night he was murdered on Coronation Street.
But the character may not be the killer. Fans say it is now too obvious for him to be named the murderer, despite Kit Green naming him as his number one suspect.
Gary appeared in a flashback during Wednesday’s episode that placed him at the scene of the crime. He was shown stood on the flat scaffolding, wielding a metal object, probably from the builder’s yard or the scaffolding itself.
He looked over the scaffolding, and on the floor was a bleeding and lifeless Theo. Of course the soap wants us to think Gary had just killed Theo, but what if he’s not the killer?

Gary looked surprised to see Theo, almost like he was making a discovery as opposed to having just killed someone. Also, we were told the killer would be named late June, early July.
Surely this is too soon to confirm it’s Gary, and the flashback only makes it more obvious that he is a red herring. Fans now think Gary may have seen someone else kill Theo, and is now covering it up.
One theory is that he’s covering for his ex Sarah Platt, as the two are in chaoots about something. Their secretive behvaiour is sparking concern.
Then there’s Theos’ partner Todd, who fans think Gary could be protecting. One fan even wondered if no one killed Theo, and he may have set up a murder scene before taking his own life.
Taking to social media one fan said: “So, Gary was there that night, but I still think he was only there later, tidying up Theo’s faked crime scene (b/c Theo wanted to implicate Todd in his murder). And, I guess we now know the murder weapon was a bit of scaffolding, & Gary probably knows where it’s hidden.”

A second fan said: “I think Gary & Sarah think they are covering up for Todd, that’s why Gary was giving Todd the long stare on Monday. He’s resenting Todd, b/c Todd isn’t in a state like him. But, that’s b/c Todd didn’t do it. So, Gary could unwittingly be covering up for Jodie!”
Another fan posted: “Theory – Sarah made Gary think Todd is the murderer. Theo had Todd’s phone so he could have made Sarah think he had Todd held hostage. She sends for Gary. Gary goes in weilding a weapon but finds a crime scene. Now he has to cover it up. Still thinking Todd did it.”
A final comment said: “If this is the flashback, Gary didn’t do it. I think Gary went to confront Theo after seeing Sarah upset on the street, but Theo was already dead. They are assuming the other did it so they’re covering for each other without ever actually asking if the other did it.”
