Clerics urge Christians to live beyond wealth, build lasting legacy

The Senior Pastor of Faith and Miracle Church, Rev. Femi Adesina and other clerics have urged Christians to live lives of devotion to God and selfless service to humanity.
The cleric made the call in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday, as family members, ministers of the Gospel, friends and admirers gathered for a candlelight procession marking the second remembrance anniversary of the late Rev. Fola Achudume.
Achudume died on August 3, 2024. Before her death, she was the co-founder of Victory Life Bible Church International and the founder of Royal Ladies International.
According to a statement on Tuesday by DAL Strategic Communications, the candlelight procession, which concluded a two-day remembrance programme, featured prayers, tributes and an educational empowerment presentation in honour of the deceased.
Delivering the memorial message, with a Biblical verse, Adesina advised believers to leave behind a legacy that would continue to speak after their death.
“What will God remember you for?” he asked.
“It is not how long one lives but how well one lives. People will not remember your houses, your cars or the money in your account. They will remember your service to God, your love for humanity and the lives you touched,” the cleric added.
Also speaking, the Assistant General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church International, Rev. Adeoye Adeyanju, urged members of the church to sustain the late preacher’s legacy by emulating her commitment to God, evangelism and service to humanity.
He said the greatest tribute to her memory would be to continue the values she lived and worked for rather than merely celebrating her life annually.
One of the highlights of the programme was the presentation of an educational empowerment package to the sole beneficiary of the RFA Educational Empowerment Initiative, Olatinko Imo.
Presenting the package, Pastor Funke Adeyanju said the initiative reflected Achudume’s enduring passion for supporting education and raising lives, saying, “If Mama were here today, this is exactly what she would have done. Mama lives on, and her legacy lives on.”
During the testimony session, many worshippers recounted how the late Achudume’s prayers, counsel, generosity and teachings impacted their lives, describing her as a mentor, teacher of the Word, prayer warrior and compassionate mother.
Addressing the congregation during the thanksgiving service, the General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church International, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, spoke emotionally about life since his wife’s passing.
He recalled pleading with her in her final moments not to leave and disclosed that the experience left him unable to pray or study the Scriptures for a period.
“I couldn’t pray. I couldn’t read my Bible. If I begin to tell you about the process, many would not believe,” he said.
The cleric also revealed that before attending the thanksgiving service, he returned to the room where his wife breathed her last.
“I asked myself, ‘If RFA were here today, what type of clothes would I wear to church for this thanksgiving?’ That was why I decided to wear this white native attire,” he said.
The deceased is survived by her husband and their four children.
