Cillian Murphy’s son has left people on social media doing a double-take over his striking resemblance to his famous father.
Aran Murphy, 19, made his first solo red carpet appearance on Friday at a special screening for the new HBO comedy Youth in London. Aran stars as Sharon Horgan’s teenage son in the series about a 50-year-old divorcee navigating the ups and downs of dating, family life and caring for her ageing parents.
As photos and video interviews of Aran began circulating on social media, viewers seemed to have one thing on their minds.
“There’s no need to mention his name; you all know who his father is,” one person shared on X alongside a photo of Aran on the red carpet.
It wasn’t just his looks that caught people’s attention; viewers also remarked on his uncanny resemblance to his Oscar-winning father in the way he speaks and carries himself.

On TikTok, Scottish presenter Jodie McCallum shared her red carpet interview with Aran, which has now garnered more than 4 million views.
“The apple didnt even fall,” one person joked in the comments.
“I have never recognized someone’s lineage this fast in my life,” added another.

open image in galleryDuring the interview, Aran had a nonchalant response when asked whether he thought millennials were “cringe.”
“Our generation’s equally as cringe, so I wouldn’t say there’s too much that I’m cringed out by, by millennials, to be honest,” he responded simply.
“That must be the calmest house in Ireland,” another person commented on McCallum’s post. Cillian is known for his laid-back interview style, which has sometimes been interpreted as bordering on apathy when it comes to promoting his films.
During his epic press tour for Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, Murphy described Hollywood’s press tour system as a “broken model.”
“The model is — everybody is so bored,” he told GQ.
“People always used to say to me, ‘He has reservations’ or ‘He’s a difficult interviewee.’ Not really! I love talking about work, about art. What I struggle with, and find unnecessary, and unhelpful about what I want to do, is: ‘Tell me about yourself…’”
As well as Aran, Cillian shares another son, Malachy, 20, with wife Yvonne McGuinness, whom he’s been married to since 2004.
In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone UK, Murphy described his sons as “really good boys” and said: “We have a laugh.”
“We don’t do ‘Dad’s Movie Night’, but they like some of my films. They say all my films are really intense,” he added.
Aran will next be seen in HBO’s divorce drama War alongside Sienna Miller and Dominic West, airing October 1.
