- Guzman y Gomez, an Australian-based Mexican restaurant chain, has abruptly closed all of its U.S. locations.
- The decision affects eight restaurants in the Chicago area, which were the only U.S. locations the chain had opened.
- Founder and CEO Steven Marks stated the U.S. business was not generating sufficient returns to justify continued investment.
- Marks noted that achieving success in the U.S. market would require significantly more time and capital than initially anticipated.
- The closure was effective May 22, with the company inviting U.S. customers to visit its international locations in Australia, Singapore or Japan.
