A bargain hunter was over the moon after visiting a charity shop and spotting a retro item that’s been hailed as the “charity shop find of the week”. Countless people flock to charity shops on the quest for unique, affordable pieces while helping to reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion.
They’re beloved by fashion enthusiasts, eco-conscious shoppers, discount lovers and many others. Charity shops typically brim with a diverse range of items spanning clothing, footwear and accessories through to books, ornaments, furniture and more.
There’s an abundance of choices allowing people to shop economically while supporting worthy causes, or helping people otherwise secure essential bargains as the cost of living crisis continues.
Many people also donate their unwanted belongings to charity shops, enabling them to free up space at home while assisting shoppers in making more affordable purchases.
One customer was thrilled with a t-shirt they found in a charity shop which was inspired by a cherished children’s TV programme – albeit with a twist. The white t-shirt showcases a cartoon-style depiction of iconic 90s ragdolls Rosie and Jim, except the classic characters are pictured drinking alcohol.
The slogan underneath the image plays on their names and reads “Rosé and Gin” instead. The popular Rosie and Jim series aired from 1990 until 2000 and followed the beloved ragdolls as they magically sprang to life whenever nobody was watching, in a similar vein to the much-loved characters in 1994’s Toy Story. Rosie and Jim would discover the many facets of British life while journeying along the nation’s canal network aboard their aptly named narrowboat, “Ragdoll”.
The charity shop find puts a contemporary twist on the classic series, tapping into its nostalgic appeal. After being posted to Facebook, it quickly got people talking.
One person said: “I really want one of these!” Another said: “ahhh the perfect combination!”
A third tagged a friend and commented: “I prefer this version now”.
While a fourth shared: “There’s a narrow boat with the same name in West Yorkshire. Edit….it’s got the same logo as well.”
Someone else said: “This is glorious”. One person joked: “I wondered what became of them after their 80s TV fame faded…”
And another told a pal: “If I find this in a charity shop I’m getting you it”.
Further Facebook users also tagged friends to draw their attention to the post, with many responding to express just how much they “needed” the t-shirt for themselves.
If your local charity shop doesn’t have the “Rosé and Gin” t-shirt in stock, numerous online retailers offer their own versions, with a variety of sizes available through Etsy, Amazon, Tee Public and beyond.
