Bottles and missiles have been thrown at police as Celtic fans celebrated their club’s 56th Scottish league title in Glasgow’s Trongate.
Martin O’Neill’s men scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to bring the Scottish Premiership trophy back to the East End of Glasgow for a fifth consecutive year. The game would finish 3-1 in favour of the Bhoys after goals from Engels, Maeda and Osmond cancelled out Lawrence Shankland’s opener.
Supporters swarmed the area of Glasgow’s city centre through an unorganised street party, which has become an annual tradition amongst the Celtic faithful since their Treble Treble bus parade in 2019, to revel in this season’s championship victory.

Police Scotland has made arrests following the disturbances as they attempt to disperse the thousands in attendance after officers assisting a medical emergency were met with significant levels of hostility, including bottles and other missiles thrown at them. The force is asking members of the public to leave the area for public safety reasons.
It is also not known if there were any injuries.
Photographs from the scene showed supporters climbing traffic lights and structures. Riot cops can be seen clearing the area of the Trongate while being pelted with objects.

This comes after multiple roads in Glasgow’s Trongate were closed off by police in anticipation – with the Gallowgate closed between Watson Street and High Street. London Road was also closed between Glasgow Cross and James Morrison Street.
High Street and Saltmarket remained open. Members of the public have also been asked to avoid the area where possible. Metal cordon’s were erected around several shops to prevent damage as well as glass screens being removed from local bus stops.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police are dealing with disorder in the Trongate area of Glasgow. Officers went into the crowd to assist with a medical emergency and were faced with significant levels of hostility, with bottles and other missiles thrown at them.
“Police are now taking decisive action to disperse the crowds. A number of arrests have been made and we’re asking the public to leave or avoid the area at this time.”
A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council previously said: “Glasgow is football daft – and we’re lucky to have two of the biggest and most successful sides in the men’s game here in the city. We want supporters to be able to celebrate success; but ask fans – including those visiting the city – to please avoid disruptive and unsafe mass gatherings at Merchant City / Trongate and other public places.
“Whoever you support, whatever the result – enjoy Saturday’s title decider, but please respect the city and your fellow Glaswegians.”
