Buck Moon: How to see July’s full moon in the UK this week
- The July full moon – also known as the Buck Moon – will be visible in the night sky this coming week.
- It is set to be at its fullest at 3.36pm GMT on Wednesday, when it is below the horizon, but will appear as full to the naked eye on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
- The Buck Moon is so called because male deer (bucks) rapidly grow new sets of antlers in July.
- It is also known as the Hay Moon, as July is the month for making hay, and the Thunder Moon, for the summer storms that are often frequent at this time of year.
- The weather forecast is mostly clear across the UK on the nights when the moon is at its fullest, although those in Scotland may have their view obscured by some cloud.
