Manchester United defeated Brighton 3-0 in Michael Carrick’s first match as permanent manager, securing their place in the Champions League next season.
Fernandes further contributed by scoring Manchester United’s third goal early in the second half, following Bryan Mbeumo’s goal which doubled their lead before half-time.
Brighton, who began the final day in contention for a Europa League spot, were ultimately forced to settle for a place in the Conference League after slipping to eighth position.
Despite the deflating loss, Brighton’s players and fans celebrated securing European football for only the second time in the club’s history.
