A secondary school was placed under lockdown following a “medical incident” involving a pupil at the site.

Maesteg School in Bridgend county, Wales, closed down on Tuesday with pupils contacting home to say that lockdown procedures had been implemented.

The school confirmed it had not closed due to any threat posed, but because of a “medical situation” involving a pupil, reports Wales Online.

A post on the school’s Facebook page read: “Maesteg School has currently initiated lockdown due to a medical situaton of a pupil and the need to protect the dignity of the young person involved.”

The Mirror has contacted Bridgend council and South Wales Police for comment.
