A bride’s love for ‘crispy’ pizza nearly ruined her dream wedding when her front tooth fell out after biting into a slice days before the big day. Katrina Kelly had been planning her dream wedding for two-and-a-half years and is due to get married in Malta on May 23.

The 32-year-old said she was ‘bragging’ about being organised with the wedding planning, until she tucked into a slice of Co-op’s Salami and Calabrese pizza. Katrina asked her fiancée, John Grevine, to bake her pizza for longer than the box suggested as she likes it ‘crispy.’

But when she bit into the pizza, Katrina was shocked to feel the veneer on her right front tooth fall off. The dance teacher said she was in denial about the incident, as she had never had issues with the veneer in the 12 years she’d had it.

The bride-to-be spent £60 to get the veneer stuck back the next day after having spent ‘a fortune’ on the wedding itself. Katrina, from Southampton, Hampshire, said: “We’ve been engaged for two-and-a-half years so we’ve been planning it for ages, there’s been a big build up.

“I was bragging to all my friends for the past weeks saying how organised I was, and that I don’t understand what the stress is over a wedding, ‘it’s so easy, what can go wrong now?’. I’ve had a veneer on my front tooth for 12 years and I was eating my pizza. My fiancé asked me if I wanted it extra crispy and I said ‘yes’.

“I like it extra crispy, he asked if he should leave it in for longer and I said ‘that’s fine’. I bit into the bit of pizza and I just felt it and knew straight away what had happened. It was one of these moments where I thought ‘please turn back time’. That didn’t happen. The veneer fell out and we both sat in silence.

“It was awful, I was just in denial. I didn’t want to take the pizza out of my mouth because I didn’t want this to be happening and be real.”

Katrina said the couple spared no expense for the wedding and didn’t want to spend extra money on the tooth. Desperately trying to stick the tooth back on herself, Katrina eventually conceded defeat and booked a dental appointment.

The veneer, originally applied after Katrina was hit by a door 12 years ago, was stuck back on restoring her smile. Katrina said: “I was in complete denial, I tried to stick it back on but obviously it was too late. I put the veneer on the table and we sat in silence. Our wedding is in a week and we’ve spent an absolute fortune so I don’t want to be spending money I don’t have right now.

“We’ve got 130 guests flying to Malta and 100 in Malta – so 230 people coming. We’ve been saving up for two-and-a-half years and our parents have helped. It’s my dream wedding, I couldn’t be any more excited. We’ve been on cloud nine for the past two-and-a-half years looking forward to it.

“It’s extra stress on everything, we’re trying to pack and keep organised. It’s not exactly what you need the week before, at least it wasn’t on the morning of. I got hit in the face by a door and the tooth was dead and they put the veneer on. I was worried they’ll only do something temporary and it wouldn’t look good.”

Katrina is relieved to have her tooth back on in time for the wedding. Katrina said: “They managed to glue the veneer back on and I have my teeth back, it went great. I’m so relieved. It was so easy, not painful at all.”

The Co-op has been contacted for comment.
