Organisers delayed the opening of an official fan zone in Boston tonight. Local organisers cited the weather and “high winds” as the reason for the delay.
Known as the FIFA Fan Festival Boston, the fan zone is located outside Boston City Hall Plaza and is free and open to the public. It was due to open at 2pm local time, 7pm Scotland time, so that supporters could watch the match between the USA and Australia in Seattle.
However, organisers delayed opening due to the weather, although fans did start getting in around 4pm (9pm Scotland time). Huge queues are forming as fans wait to get in.
A number of Tartan Army foot soldiers who have travelled to Boston without tickets had registered to attend the fan zone and were hoping to see Steve Clarke‘s men take on Morocco later tonight.
The Record understands that around 5,000 Scotland fans were planning on visiting the fan zone for the Group C match.
Posting on social media, organisers said: “The opening of the FIFA Fan Festival is delayed due to high winds. Time of opening not yet known.
“Updates to follow. Thank you for your patience. Other watch parties are available across Boston, check out City of Boston, Meet Boston and Massachusetts Government websites for more info.”
