Boris Johnson condemns Putin after Russian drone attack near miss
- Former prime minister Boris Johnson has condemned Vladimir Putin after a Russian drone targeted a stationary passenger train directly behind the train he was travelling on while returning from a security conference in Kyiv.
- Mr Johnson was alerted to prepare for a potential evacuation at 5am on Sunday in Volyn, near the Polish border, though he was ultimately not delayed and no casualties were reported by Ukrainian Railways.
- Following the incident, Mr Johnson criticised the attack as random and senseless, urging Western nations to urgently provide Ukraine with the air defence systems required to protect civilians.
- He further called on the UK and international allies to unfreeze Russian financial assets to fund Ukraine, highlighting around £10 billion currently held in London and over €140 billion in Belgium.
- Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the strikes near the border town of Yahodyn, warning that Russian aggression is knocking directly on the doors of the European Union and NATO.
